PECKSHIELD: VULNERABILITIES IN EOS DAPPS CAUSED THE LOSS OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS

The Chinese edition “Blockchain Truth” with reference to the company PeckShield, specializing in cybersecurity issues in the blockchain sphere, reports that through decentralized applications (dApps) in the EOS blockchain hackers stole about $800 000 over the past five months. According to them, during the period from July to November, 27 incidents occurred in the EOS network, which led to the loss of 400 000 EOS tokens worth more than 8 million Yuan. It is assumed that the problem is not in the network itself, but in the vulnerabilities of dApps, which are detected more and more as the number of applications grows.

In November, PeckShield revealed the vulnerability of the eight gambling on EOS blockchain: EOSBet, EOSCast, FFgame, EOSDice, EOSWin, MyEosVegas, LuckyGo and EOSLelego – which resulted in the loss of 170,503 thousand EOS tokens ($333 000) and amounted to a serious threat to the entire network.

Sources of the publication also claim that in the EOS network of almost 513 000, only 37% (about 180 000) of users are active: from 200 to 500 thousand accounts “sleep”, and about 120 000 are managed collectively.

Recall that recently the founder and head of TRON Justin Sun said that his company plans to create a fund, designed to “save” dApps developers working on EOS and Ethereum platforms, upon condition that they transfer their applications to the TRON network.
