Italians Prefer Bitcoin over Visa or MasterCard

Italians Prefer Bitcoin over Visa or MasterCard, La Stampa writes. Bitcoin is the 3rd most used online payment method in Italy, Boston-based marketing analysis firm SEMRush reports.

Italians are buying more and more online. In 2018, the total B2C spending on e-commerce was over 40 billion euros in Italy, with 62% of Italians making at least one purchase on the internet, and 2019 does not seem to be any less.

According to an analysis made by SEMrush, the payment methods that are used the most are PayPal, PostePay and, surprisingly, Bitcoin.

What’s more, the analysis indicated that Italians use Bitcoin for online shopping more often than traditional credit cards like Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

As reported, being in third place, as a payment method Bitcoin is used over 215 800 times, quite more than American Express (189,000 per month) being ranked on the 4th place,as well as Visa and Mastercard being used 33,950 per month that are ranked on the 8th place.

This is an interesting fact as actually not so long ago Bitcoin was not considered trustworthy by the most part of consumers, who could not completely understand its meaning. Even today, most e-commerce websites don’t accept this payment method. However, it’s a fact that it has been used widely within the previous year in Italy.
