Bill Gates Is Going To Short Bitcoin. Is It Possible?

Everything began last Monday when Bill Gates was cited saying he would short bitcoin on CNBC if he will be able.

The response via web-based networking media, especially twitter was quick and angry.

American rower, entrepreneur, and founder of Winklevoss Capital Management Tyler Winklevoss reacted with this tweet which brought up that @BillGates could short bitcoin utilizing the CBOE futures contract. The CBOE’s agreement details obviously express that you could be net short or long up to 5,000 contracts. There don’t appear to be any confinements on who can be short.  He  said he need to check his notes,he thought at one time there were constraints on who could short – however that may have been at the clearing level – or before bitcoin dropped from nearly $20,000 to under $9,000 and hasn’t had an explanatory increment since late November and early December.

So underlying response of the  entrepreneur  was – “certain you can Bill” .

Initially, at 5,000 contracts at $8,700 that aggregate short would be $43.5 million. That is not really going to move the needle for a man of his total assets. Regardless of whether he was correct, he likely makes or loses all the more like clockwork on his current stock possessions.

So the principal conclusion is that perhaps Mr. Gates can short Bitcoin, however it isn’t justified, despite any potential benefits to him – yet whatever is left of us simple mortals can.
