Almost A Billion Dollars Were Stolen By Hackers In 2018 From Cryptocurrency Exchanges

The company from the United States believes that over the past 9 months, the volume of stolen assets reached 927 million dollars. This is almost 250% higher than last year.

Analysts CipherTrace also recorded an increasing number of thefts in the fork 20-60 million dollars, the total damage from which in the third quarter reached 173 million dollars. In an earlier report of experts, published in July, it was said that in the first six months of trading platforms were stolen about 750 million dollars.

Analysts came to the conclusion that since 2009, large crypto-exchanges from States with weak anti-money laundering legislation have used the first crypto-coin for laundering $ 2.5 billion.

Earlier, CipherTrace CEO said that by the end of this year the number of laundered crypto assets will grow to $ 1.5 billion. At the same time, in 2017, criminals trying to hide illegal income, laundered 266 million dollars. This is 3 times less than in the first six months of 2018.

To combat the negative trend, the company launched the “anti-wash”platform CipherTrace AML based on artificial intelligence. Innovative methods of analysis and public cloud services are used to identify potential sources of money laundering.
